Getting legally married outside New York City
For weddings outside New York City, couples generally apply in person to a town or city clerk in New York State. The New York State Department of Health advises contacting the issuing clerk for specific documents, hours and local procedures.
New York generally requires the ceremony to take place more than 24 hours after the license is issued unless a court grants a waiver. The license is ordinarily valid for 60 days and may be used for a ceremony within New York State.
